What can you use in your vegetable garden to keep the ants out? I appriciate your advise!

I've got ants in my garden ... I just ignore them. Never really thought that they didn't belong there. Just kinda assumed that they were busy cleaning up dead bugs or something. Are ants in the garden a problem for veggies?

Ants are sometimes just a sign that your garden is healthy. Same with butterflies, earthworms, ladybugs. Some ants "farm" aphids or scale, they move them to plants where they will feed and exude honeydew that the ants harvest. Anything you do to kill the ants will harm other things, so unless they have a nest there, or seem to be causing some kind of damage, I'd ignore them.

I saw a tiny reddish orange ant chasing a worm
today, believe it or not..
and biting it..
I couldn't believe it..
Something caught my eye as I was outside..
It was a worm, hoofin' it realllllllllly fast
acrossed the top of the soil *and loosin' traction every so often..
The it would curl up, then it would go again,
and I kept watchin' it, and there was this tiny
red ant following it, and nippin' it, and the worm would coil up from it..
I don't have any of them red army fighter ants or what ever those are called, but that made me made he was doing that to the poor worms...
In my perennial beds they do pile high the soil on top of some plants, and certain plants don't take kindly to that..
Tomatoes probably would love it...
For me, in my veggie beds, I put dry Cream of Wheat..
*it expands up when they eat it raw and then drink water..*

I don't mind the small black ants, however, I am not crazy about the fire ants that love to bite me!
