I just bought a 6 inch potted gardenia from a reduced rack. I don,t know anything about them. this plant is very root bound. I,ve had it about 3 weeks. All I have done is water it. It has developed several buds. Should I repot it or not ? Also I would like to know if it is winter hardy?

If it is root bound you should definitely repot it. Gardenias are not winter hardy, so you'll have to try to grow it as a houseplant. I used the word 'try' because they can be tricky to keep alive indoors. They require consistent moisture...never let it dry out...and they also like indirect light. I've tried twice to grow them indoors and failed both times...so I wish you luck!

Thanks for your input. I will repot it and see what happens. I have it in an old tobacco greenhouse,I will have to bring it in the house for the winter so only time will tell if it will survive.
