Friends that live close by have tons of garter snakes in their yard, and hate them....but I think they are cute [wavey]

Would they be a nice pest controlling addition to my garden? That is, if they stuck around. My biggest problem is Japanese bettles.

Any thughts? We are sure they are not dangerous.

Small snakes like that may well eat some insects, but for the most part snakes, lizards, frogs, toads, spiders, all those "creepy" things are good friends to have in the garden, aside from the few poisonous varieties. Providing a water source and a bit of shelter will encourage them to stick around.
