PUSSY WILLOW QUESTION PLEASE HELP!

The yellow fuzz means they are going to seed. Normally, if you want to save some pussywillow cuttings, you cut them when they are grey, before they turn yellow, then hang them to dry. Then you would use them like dried flowers, in a vase or basket (without water) or in another arrangement or display.

We planted a french pussy willow last summer. This past week it "bloomed" out with the gray blooms...sorry i don't know the proper word for them...
My question is do we keep water in the vase when they are inside? We did and some of them are getting a yellow fuzz on them.
