Here in the south I thought lambsear needed a little shade - it did wonderfully there and reseeded and is now in the partial shade and full sun and seems fine in each area. It attracts a lot of bees though.
I have some sweet william in partial shade. They last 2 years and then don't come back. I also have some in full sun. They bloomed last year and are in bloom now but don't get as large as the ones in some shade.
I planted my plants from seeds too.
