We have a red bud tree which needs to be cut back. It has lost all of its leaves, should I cut it back now or wait till spring after it blooms. Also, I need to shape the tree, will it be ok if I do a lot of cutting back? Thanks Tommie

Hi Tommie!
Some one will come through with an answer for you..
Either Bill, or Papito, Nikkal,
hey Phil, maybe Phil????
I'll pull it back up to the top again,
if no one's grabbed it for you!!!

howdy neighbor.your close to me se me waveing?lol
as to your red bud tree yes you can trim it now you can scratch inthe bark and tell which part of tree is not good you can trim and not mess the blooming up too much.without the leaves on right now will be easy to clean& shape up.you wanna seal the wounds from bugs...got a wound recipie.give it a dose of mouthwash where you cut sis in laws ex was a tree man and when he trimmed our one tree he did the wounds with mouthwash he had in a spray bottle used listerine...someting in it he said keeps harmful stuff from attacking the tree and pointed at elm 3 doors down and said was a bad tree carries diseases.don't think we got to worry about hard freeze damage in Tx wish that cold air would leave...loved haveing windows open for 3 days solid and fans on& NO heat
good luck

eastern red bud is hardy to zone 4.you'd have to worry more about your freezes cracking the wood they have bad problem with wood going bad in spots and is likley why he is trimming it.mine has bad spots also but don't wanna cut cause is in center part of tree so will tolerate till side soots sprouting are larger then cut tree down and live with side shoots growing.the seeds need cold treatment 1st and do best planted in winter/fall
