Hi Geeper,
Here's a list with pics of palms hardy to the Mid-Atlantic area. That would be zones 6 to 8.

This is about palms native to Texas.

I would suggest that you research them at www.google.com to find info on whether or not they leave a lot of leaf litter if you are landscaping around a pool.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
