I thought we should start a rose tips/info thread. I saw on another post that Barb H. wants to get roses this year...go for it! [thumb] I love my roses, and the more I 'fuss' with them, them more appreciation they show! [grin]

But, if you are considering roses, remember to have the spot you want to put them ready to go...that was my first mistake (of many!!!)...when I moved in here, there were a few rose bushes, but the previous renter had taken some of the others with her when she left! [Razz]

So, knowing NOTHING about roses, I went out, bought replacements, and plopped them into the ground... [dunno] They have been fairly forgiving, but I know better now!

Anyone have some more tips? [thinker]

Hey, Barley!

Thanks for starting the thread! I can't believe that the people took their roses out of the ground! [Razz] [Frown] [Frown] They must have really been attached!!

Then again...I can almost see how someone would be attached to them...especially if they were given by someone as a special gift with meaning, etc. But, still! [nutz] [nutz]

I have a big question!!!!! Hope someone can help me with it and funnily enough it's on the same vein as Barley's statement about someone diggin' up all of her roses before she moved in!! [tongue]

I would LOVE to get clippings of all of my father's roses...there are some growing from when I was a very little girl....and believe me, I'm no little girl now! [Big Grin]

What is the proper and easy way to do it?? It would be a real kick for me NOT to have to buy any roses...(OK, ok..I'll still buy them, but I want a LOT MORE)...just pilfer through my daddy's garden!! [angel]

Can anyone tell me how to do this?
Barb

I have this sweet dear husband. He teaches me about propagation.he is not garden abled.he trampled one of my aloha HT roses.Well I stuck the pieces(after trimming them up a bit) in rooting hormone(schultz) and watered them in with rooting stimulator(schultz again) and placed a baggie over it& it is siting so far successfully on end table under lamp. They are growing...got new growth spurting forth like when normal folks root items.course i maybe over hormoned them& plus they are shooting forth anyway right now If he had just not walked within 3 feet of it anyway. And by the way...am moveing those 3 roses from that spot.He seems to not have enough area to walk in this area.my mexican petunia is flat.I think he may have stepped on it also.I do have rose files on rooting. ok rose folks.lets talk about cane borers.I'm haveing this new problem& need to know of a better sealer.I keep cutting these bad spots out& they seem to not be going away and I been pruneing and spraying with bleach solution in between every sinlge cut now.Its happening to my HT's which is also mainly what I grow.

And as to that rose shrub that has had black spot issues and have in area growing by self?????Well hubby decided it would help it if he mowed over it completly chopping it to ground level.so we shall see if this perks it up any.least is less to spray neem oil on now huh [Roll Eyes]

oh and have added some more alluim around 3 HT roses& will add some painted daisys if they ever sprout for me.

I've never run into cane borers. Good luck njoynit. I'll ask my dad, he's been growing roses a lot longer than us... I'll see what he says. [flower]

Sounds like your hubby is about as helpful as my old gardeners were...wheed-wacking my poor iris' and poppies.... [Roll Eyes] but at least I could fire them. Your hubby you just have to learn to laugh and love 'em anyways. [grin]

Women and cats will do as they please. Men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.
