These are like a cross between a biscuit, cookie, and cake. They aren't really sweet tasting but not bland like a biscuit either,, These are light bodied, and buttery, with a hint of nutmeg!
Old Fashion Tea Cakes

2 cups of sugar
2 eggs well beaten
5 cups plain flour
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/3 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
Sift all dry ingredients EXCEPT BAKING SODA

add baking soda and vanilla to milk and alternately add flour and milk untill all flour is used form into ball knead lightly and roll out to 1/4" thick and use a biscuit cutter or fav' shape , place on a greased cookie sheet,,or--> (I use parchment paper), and bake 15-20 minutes or untill light golden brown. cool for 5 minutes on rack and store in airtight container to retain softness.
