Weezie ~
Wich variety do you have? A friend of mine has been trying to grow primroses here for a few years but they never come back the next spring.
Are the primulas perennial here in zone 6?

Lynne,
They are very hardy little guys!!
What growing conditions does she have them in??
They like shade, medium shade, and like moist
(not soggy) but can even be on the side of a little creek like area...and humousy type soil.
Mine are in good amount of shade, and mine are doing good, (a little on the drier side than I would like)

Funny, Weezie...
she has them planted in the exact environment you mention - she also has a lot of feral cats that she feeds - do you think they could be eating them? what about deer? do they eat them maybe?

Lynne,
I've always thought they were one in the same??
I know there is several types or hybrids but it was all in the very same ball park.....
Now, sometimes, I won't swear to this as someone can make a monkey out of me, but I've always heard, not to buy plants from some of those places as they are not hardey enough to withstand
winters *freezing temps', and winters in general.
To buy plants (that you'd expect to be hardy for your area) at a nursery who usually sells just that.. the other stores sell plants that may not be hardy or up to standards of out door life.
That's the only other thing I could think of...
Sometimes plants are short lived..
How many times or amounts of plants has she tried?

"I'm spayed, declawed, and housebound - how's YOUR day going???"
quote:Last summer one of our HDs had a beautiful 5 gallon plant for sale with tubular reddish/orange flowers - absolutely no tag, but it was for sale in the perennial section. I bought it because it was just the kind of flower that hummers love (I'll do anything for my hummers!!!) and ended up taking it to a well known large nursery here and asked them to identify it - no one could, even after searching through all their books, etc... but they all insisted that it was a tropical plant and DEFINITELY NOT HARDY here. Someone did manage to identify it for me online correctly after I described it and of course it's not hardy, so I took it back and gave them a little piece of my mind! Of course I should have know better, but my love for plants and hummers got the better of me, at first.
