I've seen motion sensor water jets. Never used one. If an animal triggers the sensor, it fires a jet of water at them. Probably works for postmen too!

Yes it's called a scarecrow and i have one..works great for cats especially. it works on infrared (heat) not motion. Kinda spendy ($80) but I got one on ebay for half price. You can adjust the range and distance sensitivity so it doesn't fire everytime someone walks by your house. ha ha.
