And some hints for me too, please.
I'm going to grow some in a half barrel.
I'm not buying fresh, canned or frozen spinach until this thing is eradicated.

Spinach is best when planted early spring or in the fall. If it gets too much heat and sun (summer weather), it will bolt and go to seed.

What keeps it from sprouting? I've tried several times and get so few to sprout.

It's too late now unless you're sowing for spring harvest. Current soil temps will not allow for very good germination or plant growth.

I don't grow spinach...
but was curious if you could sow inside *in the house in 6pks or jiffy pots or whatever your preferred method of starting seed would be*
and then put them out for the fall time??
I am growing zone 5 and I can over winter Swiss Chard.. so, would spinach be the same way...
*and if you can't get it to germinate outside cause of soil temps, inside sowing and transplanting may be your ticket..*
Give it a try that way maybe and let us know how it came out *or didnt'*
