Yesterday it looked like my lettuce had been uprooted! A lot of white tendrils appeared around the little green leaves that looked like roots. I tugged on them lightly and it seems like they're still rooted. I just don't understand this phenomenom. They sprouted only about a week and a half ago. Is this normal, or should I be worried?

Did anyone spray alot of water, or did it rain hard?
Wind???

It's been a little windy and my wife, when she watered them last, said she did not spray hard at all. Perhaps it's the wind? Do you think they'll still survive?

It's hard to say exactly from your description but it sounds like what baby lettuce always looks like. It is not in the ground at the base of the leaves but has a little thin stemlike thing that attaches it to the soil. I can't really explain it better than that.
