Sounds like a great idea. Will the rose climb up the pole or does it need some kind of lattice to weave through?

Climbing roses won't 'grab' on to stuff - you either have to tie them or weave them yourself as they grow. Lattice is great for climbers!

Well, ended up putting a birdhouse on a pole and planting the rose at the base of it, then planted pink coneflowers all around.
Still planning the light idea but I want to plant clematis around it.
