help with my scarlett runner please...

hello,

i ve sown a scarlett runner bean and it s now almost a feet and a half,when could i start hardening it and when could i leave it outside;i know it s marked on the package but i don t have it anymore,it s really a nice one but i know before long i wont be able to keep it inside ,won t i ?

now a days temperature varies between oh maybe,-4 c. and 8 or 10 c.(10 c is about 50 or 52 f.

runner beans wont tolerate the cold!
-4 will kill it, the only thing i can think of to help you keep it long enough to harden outside, would be to pinch it back.
that will slow it down and give you more time, till it warms up a bit.

i ll follow you re advice and pinch them,i m not sure,is it when you cut a littlt bit shorte?when do you think the ideal temps to harden it off would be?

im not sure of the temps, but i dont plant them out till all risk of frost has gone.
i start mine in the greenhouse mid april, by the time mine are hardend off there about 12 inches long.
pinch them back to about a foot and you will find you will get 2 new shoots at the leaf joint, dont worry about it ive broke a few in the past and they always come back strong and crop well.

i ve just planted it not too long ago,but i pinched it like you said and there was such a good smell when i did,made me want to eat some.

if you do get a cold snap, cover with garden fleece or an old net curtain!

i m sory ,i missexplained myself,i met i sowed in in a pot not too long ago.and following your advice i pinched it a bit,but thanks for the advive,it ll be usefull in a few mounths.

by the way,i see it s only your 40 th. post,so i take this opportunity to welcome you into this forum;they re a bunch of great peolple and we ve got fun,so stay tuned.
