Maybe these will help.

http://www.alchemy-works.com/atropa_belladonna.html
In "A Modern Herbal", it discusses how Belladonna prefers chalky earth. You could try to increase the calcium levels. Perhaps try gypsum or diatomaceous earth. Gypsum is usually found at garden centers and the diatomaceous earth at pool supply stores.
Also, a thought, if these ever does grow for you, please take all the precautions necessary, particularly to keep it far from pets and children...

Search The Garden Helper:
a while back i posted on mandrake and belladonna.
well i had asked why i hadn't seen any signs of "life" yet.(i planted them indoors at the end of february i think) well some good folks told me to try different things and most of all be patient.
o.k. still being patient but still no seedlings i planted quite a few seeds in multiple containers. do you think it could be "bum" seeds. i had to send away to canada for them. i have no clue give up maybe? (i cant give up it's not in my nature) any help will be greatly appreciated i don't know why but it's really important that i get these plants to grow.
i think it's because of the movie "practical magic" not that i intend to poison anyone (for those who have seen the movie)
