Extra large Marigolds

I planted some marigolds which I had started indoors from seed. It was some my wife had and I did not notice how high the packets indicated they would grow. When they got about six feet tall I started looking at them on the internet and the largest I can find as a normal size is about three feet. Probably 75 per cent of mine were higher than three feet and most were about four. Maybe 25 per cent were at least five to six feet. What could have caused this. I didn't fertilize them and had them planted in three different spots around my back yard garden. Each plot grew about the same height. The flowers were about two to four inches across.

Cool!
I don't know what caused it, but I'd sure like to see a picture if you have one!

Buckle up! It makes it harder for the aliens to suck you out of your car!

I'd love to see a picture too!!
They would be awesome..
I've had some pretty tall one's,
but never that big!
What kind of soil was it in?
And did you use any fertilizers on them????

You must have some really fertile, good soil there......A few of mine are just over 3 feet which is tall for my norm.

These marigolds are pretty well wilted but you can still see how huge they were. The top of the trailer side is 50 inches off of the ground. The plant on the right is 5 and a half feet tall and the stalk is an inch thick above the bottom three branches. I couldn't measure it below. The plants on the left are just over 6 feet tall. I had no idea they were unusual or I would have made some pictures before I pulled them. They really looked like a jungle.
