pond depth and fencing laws?

I would like to put a pond in the front yard, have already sold my hubby on the idea. (won him over when I said I would pay some young kids from the church to do the digging) [grin]

BUT we live in CA, the land where they love to have a law regarding everything...
does anyone know how deep a body of water can be before I will be required to fence it in? I've heard 2 feet. Is it locally governed? if so how do I go about finding the legal limits?

We have the same types of laws here...I contacted the county extension office & they gave me the info.
