What has happened to my cucumber and squash plants. They have disappeared. The tomato plants are fine and the radishes are coming up. We had a few days of chilly weather. Are the cukes and squash plants more fragile that the others? Or, do you think the cats scratched them up?

My husband has had several of his tomatoes chopped off halfway and all his cayanne peppers are gone. He is thinking it could be a squirrel or a cat.

Could've been cutworm. (Do yuz have cutworm over that way)? A container with the top and base cut out will protect your babies. It also helps stop them from being burnt off by afternoon sun, makes it easier to mulch around them, stops the wind from blowing them about, and if it's a cabbage it gives them a support like an eggcup to sit in:)
I use old plant pots with the base cut out. http://photobucket.com/albums/v239/m.longstaff/?action=view¤t=1dc2187c.jpg
