Soil temperature needs to be at least 12 -15 degrees celcius for germination. They prefer warmer weather to grow too. Try germinating them on top of the hot water heater. Once they're up they'll need sun to continue to grow so maybe a well lit sunny window until the ground warms up.

Hi Longy,
was very happy to have an answer so soon,and to have a friend in gardening from so far,thanks for your infos. i don t have any hot water heater but i ll try to place it where it s warm enough.you seem to know what you re talking about,by any chance would you know ifi can leave some cucumber plants in the same pot as an amarylis and a lily till transplant outside or will it affect the taste,thank you very much in advance.
thanks again,i could kiss you...well think i will if you don t mind (here is suppose to be the 2 smilly friendly kissing on cheek..in case it didn t work...and...i m a little bit paler.)

It won't affect the taste Franny but it may be difficult to seperate the roots if they get too big. Cucumber roots like to travel and the further the better. Best in seperate pots i reckon. BTW cucmber and other cucurbits are pretty hungry feeders so get some wealth into the soil where you will plant them. Manures, compost, blood and bone with added potash etc. etc. or dig in a good balanced organic fertiliser now so it will be rested come time to plant out. Unless it's still under 6 feet of snow of course

Hello Longy,
how are you,here for the first time in a couple of weeks the sun is peeking through the clouds,we were geting tird of rain.so my husband and i finally could set de gazebo on the patio,next week if warm enough the flowers.
i believe it s almost winter down under,is it.what kind a weather you have these days.

a week ago i sowed cucumbers in a pot(in simple soil),and this week was a bit cold(down to 40-50) and i m afraid it might have frozen the seed,i d be much obliged if one a you could tell me what kind a weather a cucumber seed can endure.
