I have a gardenia that is prone to white fly and when I see it I use an insecticidal soap on it. I spray in the morning or after the sun goes down. I also make sure I get the underside of the leaves. I would spray it again in a week. 2 or 3 cycles of the gets rid of them. I've never seen black scaly stuff, so are you sure that it is white fly? Good luck.

banafkgator,

White fly is just that.. I lays white eggs on the leaves..Underside and the leave will turn brown , fill with holes and wont leave.

Black is something else.
