mine have new growth growing also is normal.I don't really have to prune mine for winterish stuff really.only reason i prune in the spring is to tell it to wake up and smile.my sickly "new year is the 1st of the year to bloom.hubby probably woke it up as he hit it with mower in dec.i had trouble even finding it to make sure it survived him.he even hit the d@% marker.& I THOUGHT markers on coat hangers would stop him (but thats ok...am makeing a raised bed for it& will be 6 inches so he CAN't Tilt mower up and mow)
can leave in pots now,but is a good time to plant inground gives the roots time to settle in before we get hot.I'd wait till this cold front passes.you'll want to keep it watered well after planting.don't fertilize till night temps in 50s.plant in good draining spot that gets at least 6 hours of sun((another reason i have roses to move.some need more sun and 3 decided don't like where they are...to close an area hubby works around in..thorns catch his legs& pants cause he don't pay attention))

mine got confussed cause when hubby hurt hand was dumping his soaking epson salt water on my roses(me waste epson salts!!no!he was lucky I SHARED my garden supply of epson salts)I get blooms up till nov sometimes dec and they really only sleep 2 months and thats probably cause i don't cut the blooms off then& don't get time to till after christmas

AHHH, mowing the grass in december! Must go to sleep per chance to dream. Never trust a husband with a lawn mower, I swear they run stuff over just to see how ticked off we can get. Just wait til I shovel the snow off the roof onto his new ski doo tomorrow. This one will be for my poor alpine currant that he ran over with the snowblower yesterday.

I fired my gardeners for weed whacking my iris'. Why they thought they needed to be trimmed, while in a planter, I couldn't tell ya. But they are safe now, I do all of my own yardwork. My poor babies...

lets just say he has enabled me to progress in knowledge of propagation.though sometimes hes able to screw that up also...like the rose plant he mowed over.so i tried to root it and was in bathroom on shelf by toliet...he used it as an ashtray and i think now the stem is dying so no saveing it so will be waiting for the root to sprout again in ground....so can FIND my rose so can mark it and move it.he also tought me that if you weed eat a hibiscus and it gets wacked below the shoots of leaves that stem don't re grow.no nodes no growth,on the other hand he has learned that if he threatens my plants to get me to work in the yard in the hottest part of day in tx season of hades.I will do it to save my plants.though might be told have a bad attitude about it and might burn his dinner on purpose for spite
When i lived in indy the rose would go completey dormant and depending on the winter may or may not return depending on how much heave when spring decided to arrive about june.most roses are pretty hardy now days& some are more hardier for them northerners like weezie,but they get snow to protect their stuff(& pray for no ice).i'm expecting a night of freezeing temps but only about 6 hours maybe if that long so only will toss some pine straw on them but will do some cow manure also cause will do soon anyway so might as well do it now.so i'm fixing to be chilly.is 40 with a windchill of 38 but have some gusts of 20 mph so will get a feel of that weather i moved from for a few days but no snow but it might make me wear my gardening gloves that i never where.you should see them!! are 4 yrs old and are clean!
