I massacered my brugmansias yesterday [scaredy]

I took 6 hours& that was to cut 7 plants.I made easy on the thicker trunk stuff(ya know...saved the blisters..ha-ha)I used hubbys cordless saw saw.I had to change batteries& it don't work well on trunks over 6 inches(slight burning brugmansia smell...1st time ever smelled that! [teacher] )

1 5 gallon bucket
18 milk jugs
3 cooking oil jugs
2 butter bowls
12 cups

oh and the windowsill.
1 coke bottle
2 cups
1 glass
1 plastic glass

I robbed tomato stakes(opps! [Mad] I ripped up a tomato plant....and got pissed cause it had a tomato blossom & would have been my LAST tomotao of the year ) Drove stakes& dragged out sheets& 1 ladder& a trashcan to cover 7 plants.only 3 were covered so I could finish with the blooms(2charles G/jamicia yellow) 4 are covered cause I just could NOT cut anymore. It was breezey.I had beer spilt up my back cause stuck bottle in back pocket, then bent over for marker(which BIL thught was VERY FUNNY)it was also getting near dinner time& my counter was FULL of jugs with brug cuttings(and my counter is L shaped 7 ft one way 7 ft the other way.)

I'm loading pictures in yahoo now.The ones on the dresser.I had to move from counter cause I ran out of room.besides the actual 7 plants left to cut.I have 3 they won't get cut,but 2 will be relocated for next year& one goes across the street to Addy. That digital temp thinggy.I love it.has alamrm. My cold GH was 42 when was 30 out we did not stay at 30 long at all was 30-33 in 7 minutes, but mostly has stayed at 33 then now is yup 41.I carried it out and put under the sheets on brugs& they were rangeing from 44-48& my soil temp was 61(I stuck it 3 inches down)

And to think.I have 4 new current plants for next year& have 6 pending trades of others& those can be more than one cutting.I have more cuttings this year than last year by about double,,,,

***And still think WEEZIE should grow one***

The MOST fun about THAT cutting!!!!!!!!! [grin] was popping them baby forming buds....they make a perfect"POP" [Big Grin]

[tongue]

Are you trading them or are you going to try to grow them all in your garden next year?

I'm tradeing them& selling some& yes a few will be grown for next year& then next year I'll wanna choke myself when it comes time to cut and go through this again!
My hands are still sore.

I'll have an additional brugmansia bed next year& it will be raised slightly& will have a small 100 gallon pond& its looking for a fragrant lotus plant.

Shoot Hope!! I got over 100 cuttings from only 3 of the five 7' stalks I had on my Dr Suess!! It got HUGE this year!! HAve lots of those cuttings left--should be rooting soon. Anyone want some?? Look at my site (link under my name here). Next year it will take me a VERY long time to do cuttings as I have cuttings now for close to 50 different kinds (minus whatever ones do not make it over winter). I will be eliminating as I go the ones I decide do not exactly thrill me but still at least one very busy, hard working year ahead!! hehehe Bonnie

I would like to have one, if you still have enough. Just let me know. Servantsheart, where are you from? I'm from SC also, Zone 7. Just curious.

I just bought a big bag of potting soil and a plastic container large enough to put MOST of the cuttings into soil in. They shouldn't take more than a couple more weeks to root. They were rotting in water!! Some started to root but far above the water line!! Anyway, what do you have to trade??

I am in Laurens, SC--upstate, only 30 minutes about from Lake Greenwood!! It is BEAUTIFUL there!! Just discovered it--went to Super Wal-mart there for a change and enjoyed the trip and view so much that I will be going there more often than not from now on. About as far as my usual Wal-Mart!!

LMK!! Bonnie

PS--I have almost 100 cuttings. I will be attempting to sell some on Live Deal/Ebay since I NEED money pretty bad, but am willign to trade a LOT for plants/seeds (if there are enough kinds offered) I would like to have.

Depends---do you have room for them to stay like that?? If not, then cut them as much as you need. They will grow back twice as much next year anyway. Only thing is, they are obviously in containers--they will need to be transplanted into larger containers next Spring!! Good job!!

NjoyNit, I am wondering if you are willing to send me a cutting, rooted a bit, wrapped in wet tissue, in bubble wrap, to Canada. I had never heard of the Dr. Zeus one. I guess I will await your reply to see if you are willing first, then I will ask more questions. I plan to have this plant, if you send me one, inside under floros for the winter here, veg it out, then put it outside for the spring/summer season here. I have seen these plants before, but would love to have one growing inside this winter. Please let me know, I can of course send you the shipping and handling fees. Beautiful pictures by the way. You could create quite the forest of those if you plant them all yourself. ceceharpo@hotmail.com

Cindy,,,I see ya dusted the pianio! [thumb]

You can leave them in those pots inside till spring.amend your soil where their going in spring.just take some beam out,,you'll never feel the cold [muggs]

If you have a cool room you could put them in there, just so room don't freeze. you won't need to water them alot& you will want your soil to dry between waterings. My bedroom last year stayed about 65-72,but would warm up quiet a bit durring the da sometimes(TX sun still hot in winter)I grew bonnies jamica yellow so would be a lil bigger(but not much)& 3 cuttings I had rooted for expansion. When my night tems stay above 50 is when I plant back out inground(If mine were to be dug& not cut.) You...being further north& shorter season if you WERE to trim them would leave a portion of the "Y".that way when you start blasting out growth you will get blooms sooner.my trunks regorw each season& I wait for "Y"s....But can grow about 9-10 months out of the year almost to your 4 months(sorry.that sounds bad.I'll drink my shot of Jack to ya this afternoon for that.I quit beam...sorry )If ya got the room for growing them.I'd stick a grow light at um or set up a florecent shop light.Also....cooler temps will need less watering, warmer temps will need more.you can tell by the leaves.

I have a double white Knightii.I have not seen it bloom yet.Its in my cold GH.I'll be setting lighting up today(well lighting is on the list for today..... [critic] ) I had buds when rita came& I dug my baby and she sat out storm in my shower.dropped her buds, but we are fine now.they are just starting to change their angle. I also have 4 new plants growing in 8 inch pots(versi/verig~ cypress gardens~peaches cream~versi peach) our coldest outdoor temp was 30,but cold GH low has been 42(got me a new digital temp with Hi/Lo& alarm& it will read soil temps)

CeCe.let me find Judiths old e mail.I know its easier to get cuttings into Canada than out .I know to ship them soiless.I may have the postal exchange rate chartif keept right e mail.I can send you 4 kinds that are rooted.you'd also want to peek in GW at her posts& gallery. They really do well there.your short season and all.............I won't ship in bubblers.I do have boxes.

njoynit...there's no problem with keeping them in the pots until spring...I have a shtload of plant lights in my house...and plenty of room now that my stuff is in storage. Actually, that's about all I have left here is plants! [Big Grin]

Will I have bigger, awesomer brugs if I leave them in the pots and take them out next summer, or should I chop them up and have 10 times more brugs? [dunno]

don't remove your "Y".Shoot.I'd be intrested just to see if yours bloomed before mine...plus my Knightii will stay in container till spring anyway. And actually [thinker] I COULD move it indoors and in future laundry room has the BEST lighting&warmth....But I'd be killed. He ain't got NO IDEA I paln on haveing 3 grow lights on porch in cold GH [lala] [shocked] .

If you had one make more than 1 trunk....then if wanted you COULD cut that up and root for more.I have some make multi-trunks.

I just popped in.I don't have a fuctionong oven at the moment and will be useing SIL's down the road.I just got my food loaded on counter& my mixer.I have to cook my 15 lb ham tonight(gee...Hope I figured right 5 hours...but had 2 drinks already so I may count wrong ,by now)I have 4 pumpkin cheesecakes to make(I'm looking to make a sauce with my Dekuyper creme de Cacao)I won't get to make pumpkin pie cause when tried to BUY some IN MY SMALL TOWN.all 4 places were out& I can't GO no where else cause don't have time. But got apple pie to make and I"ll add pecan pie& make some divinity& no one will care.

Here's to THANKSGIVEING [muggs] Can't wait till its over!
