i am from the philippines. my sweet basil plant is always being eaten by red ants. it's now dead. i'm thinking of buying another basil plant. what should i do to prevent these insects from eating the plant? thanks

I love basil too.Usually when I see ants on my plants [grin] it's because I have an aphid problem.
The ants go after the nectar that the aphids excret.

You can spray your plants with a strong stream of water to knock the aphids off.If you have a bad infestation of aphids,insecticidal spray could be used.Here is a link.
