I'm not a gardener. As a little side project my son and I took the seeds to some avocados and tried to get them to sprout. Well we succeeded!! Now we don't know what to do with them. The seeds are still in their jars of water and I think it's getting close to time to transfer them to pots. I saw something about cutting back the first growth to allow a fuller tree to grow but I'm not sure. Does anyone know how to successfully grow an avocado tree? What do we do with it now?

I didn't cut mine back and I started your way. I potted it first (cause it was Winter) then planted outside in the ground in Spring when temps were consistently warm. It is 1 yr old now and counting. The leaves fell off this Fall but otherwise it seems to be doing well. Just remember it takes a long time for trees to grow to maturity so it may be a WHILE before fruit will form. We both might want to research a little just to be sure we don't need two for polination?!!
