I have gardened for over 38 years and never tried this.

If I want them to flower on April 16th for my daughter`s wedding, when do I need to plant them?

I have read 10-14 dats AND 4-6 weeks.

What is you experience? Thank you for any suggestions.

Hi Rue,

Check out this site:

Paperwhites

Paperwhites require no chilling before they are planted.

Rue,
I've never done them either,
but I think when my kids are older and
I have the room, *I have no window space,
Where little tiny pinkie's don't grab anything*
right now, but when I have the opportunity,
I'd like to do some,
my mom did some, my niece gave them to her
as a Christmas gift, I think they were pretty
but I can't remember if they had a kind of stinky
smell to them, wellllll, lets just say, not a pretty one. Let me know!
But I had wondered how to take care of them when they are done, and if they were reuseable....?...
Her's weren't!!! *I don't think*

We've done them twice here...

once a few years ago when my daughter was in Brownies and they did this for a project -
sorry, but I could not go into the room they were growing in because of the smell [Razz] [Frown] [Razz]

the second time I received one really large bulb from my sister for a holiday gift in a really tall vase with colored stones. It was a really pretty set-up, and cost her a small fortune (which was such a rip-off if you know how to do this yourself...), but the odor of that one bulb was enough to knock me out everytime I walked in the front door of the house!!! I ended up throwing the bulb out before it was done!

I know it's a personal preference - scents and all... but this is one I am definitely not able to be around.

LOL! Oh no!

Now I remember why I have never done these. Mom did these one time and the smell was horrible!

I dreaming that maybe the scent has been improved!?

Well I can always stick them way out in the garden FAR away from the house!

I also smelled some about 6 weeks ago in the grocery store, and they were pretty raunchie too!
hehehehe, but, hey, you've got a "GIFT TO GIVE" heheehehehehe right on hand now...
Just kidding, Got a side window or something it can be in but not toooo close to the nose range?

I have bought in the grocery stores the primroses and the hyacinths' and they have a really pretty smell!!!
