Here is my question of the day......I just came up with this today, first time in my entire life.

When (male or female) dig soil with the help of a shovel , tell me what method you use.

Being a female and (Polish) ;o) I use my right hand at the top of he shovel, left hand below,
And my left foot.......
Hubby says he uses his Right hand and right foot?

Lets have everyones method .......I never knew this ?????????????????/Never.

;o) LOL

If you're right handed, you are also right-footed.

Gówno!!! [Roll Eyes] Dodge, can you believe I spent nine years (K-8th) in a Polish school and that's one of the few words I remember learning! [Big Grin] [Big Grin] Of course, it's not a word that was taught in class by nuns! [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Dodge, I don't think there's a right or wrong way to dig, [dunno] it's just like anything else, you do what works for you! [Wink] That's the only thing that matters. [kissies]

Hey, Dodge, I'm guessing that I should probably say "you're welcome!", [Big Grin] but it's just a guess! [dunno] I really don't remember too much of the language.

No, I didn't marry Polish! My dad was Polish, but he died when I was six so I wasn't exposed to the language at home. [Frown] It's hard to retain it if you don't use it on a daily basis!

First, I always sharpen the shovel with a grinder or file. Removes almost half the work in firm soil, and slices roots, rather than smashing roots.

I have left had on the top end, and lift by moving my right hand down almost to the metal. That causes the shovel to have the least leverage.

And, I also raise the weight with my legs in one motion.

Always rotate your whole body when you toss dirt, to spare back injury. I pivot one foot over when I toss to the side or in back of me, to rotate my body.

Sounds good......This is just by accident I discovered I was different.....It hasn't hurt me. I clobbered the leg on a lawm mower......

I am guessing I use my head, both sides at the same time......RIght hand on top, left down the side and left foot.......Always worked for me.
My son, jumps on the shovel with both feet to dig..
GUess it is all rythm ..Sort of like dancing.
Smooth an works....

Thanks for sharing.......Us farmers try hard.
