Well I had a plan.... to do something I'd never done before Planting Bulbs...!!

I started at 9am and finished 5:50pm only stopping to refill my water to drink,,, total planted 312 [shocked] [nutz] Yep the nursery had them 50% off and little ol me not realizing how long it would take JUST HAD to have more! I put each one in but after about 5 hours I started planting in clumps,,
The only thing that has me worried is that it's still so darn warm here 79 today I'd already put it off due to the warm temps.. But decided to go for it today. I had so many bulbs I resorted to putting them in HUUGE patio pots,(I'd like to see someone try to carry one of those off...NOT) ,,, SOOO I'm keeping my fingers crossed I'm hoping I did everything right,, including JV's white sugar!! [gabby]

Now five hours later I've had to take a muscle relaxer back is having spasms and it's(the med) is kicked in full force so I'm going to bed and dream about young again and having enough sense to stop working and go sit down somewhere [lala]

I didn't plant in any particular patterned color system because I wanted a big splash of kolidescope of colors especially around the tree ring..

Yep, leave them be with the greenery,
they need that for their "Food" for next year's blossom and greenery... if you cut it off early before it browns out and down completely the food supply will be weakened...

now ther'es 2 theories on the seed pods..
if you snip off now, that will put more energy back into the bulb below to grow big next year..
If you leave the top pods on, the plant will make a seed like thingie, drop over and a new one will start, but they will be smaller and will "Naturalize"....

So your choice really..
If you have a couple sets of them, you may want to experiment and do one one way and one the other way..

OHHH Well I love experimenting I will leave on some, and the rest I will snip off the pods but I won't [Frown] cut any of the greenery and will wait until the pods turn brown before I snip them . Thanks!!!!!!!!!

Wow - looking GREAT! You inspired me to get my stuff in the ground! Did a big mixture, too - so we'll see what pops up. I need to put an edge around my area - I really like your border around the tree.

Diane,
I am going to shar my feelings on bulbs...
and then hope you can do a better job that me...
I am still learning...

When I first got my 60ft garden out in back,
I had wowwwwz~zer's plans for it...
I started with bulbs cause they were soooooo pretty, and spring was sooooooooooooo much fun..
I had a little stone path all the way thru it in the middle *no pictures either, no camera back then* but I had an old chair in the middle for a focal point and it was simple gorgeous and cute...
In the spring time I had snow drops, crocus's, tulips, scill's, hyacinths, oh, my, gosh, the list goes on and on, and on, and on.. it was so cute, all thru along the path....

Welllllllllllllllll, come summer, in the hot summer days', there wasn't much of a place to plant anything... I had bulbs all thru out the thing, and when they die back, you have no idea where they are when you come home with a flat of
summer annuals.....

I was, still am perplexed...
and the notion of me slicing into a bulb mortifies me, and with in time, they all spread and now, I still have to get back there and doe something with it, I was forsighten at least to put some "Bones" to the garden, and I have my rhodo' and duetzia, potentilla's, etc.. bushes,
Bigger plant areas's like bleeding heart, comfrey, hollyhock's, lillies, *more bulbs* etc..
type stuff, but I can't add anything to where the bulbs are... [Eek!]

I'm going to try some johnny jump up's back there, it does get awefully hot back there in the summer, so we'll see if they'll do some reseeding too..

Weezie When I bought the bulbs I told my nursery I wanted to put in late spring and summer/fall bloomers as well and they told me to mark areas where there wasn't any thing and to leave plenty of spaces for staggering, well I did that around tree ring BUT My youngest GS was out there and moved ALL the Rocks I used for marking [Eek!] ( well I DID tell him to go to the front yard and get some bigger rocks for me my mistake for not telling him where NOT to get them From) [Roll Eyes] so ultimatley that one is on me he only did as I asked!, No he didn't get scolded [Big Grin] [Wink] I discovered it days later. Hey all rocks look the same around here. I know where some spacings are but that is very few!!! SOO another lesson learned [lala] [Big Grin]
I may just sprinkle on some annual flowering ground cover seeds [dunno] or maybe even try a few choice spots for summer/fall bulbs [lala]
we'll see!
