Hi there. We have grown some sunflowers in our backgarden and one day, we noticed that one sunflower plant had 16 buds in total.

If there are any sunflower experts out there, could you tell us the average number of buds on a regular sunflower plant?

Thanks. (By the way, we amatures, so we don't know anything!)

Its a multi branching sunflower.I have it.Mine is yellow& one plant ended with steaks of orange on petals but was only 6 flowers and the stem seemed weaker, but the seeds were white.my yellow the seeds are black.plants are about6 ft tall, the ones in more shade not as well as full sun,can tell difference. My pack was just marked sunflower seeds so I'm still searching exact one.
There are some that are just one flower and are varuos sizes.the larger head ones need staked or better grown against fence.
And being you live UK you get alot of rain.I would mound the soil up and sow seed(6 in mound)They don't like to have wet feet...this way they get wet toes [perplexed]
save your seed for next year.pick head off when all petals are gone and edges of flowerhead start to curl.i lay mine on paper plate 2 days then crumble and search through chaff.the seeds are likely dark black-dark brown.store cool dark place sealed container after dry.I'll let my container set open a week then place lid on.

So how talls your plant?oh and buds....one plant has 23 tops the others 16-20.I started one more from seed to see how long takes to grow..took 5 days to germinate, but sat there about 3 weeks & has been 2 weeks and got some hight now almost 17 inches and looks like stem is thickinging, temps been in 90s& this spot is poor soil.the one with 23 buds is near rose bush...so its probably stealing manure tea cocktails. They all get fertilized though.
