I went out today and bought myself a really cool cement pillar to display my sundial on in the garden. Anyone know what to use to adhere the two together?? The sundial is a metal and the pillar is cement.

And this is a REALLY dumb question but I assume the dial needs to face north right? I've never had one so who knew? [dunno]

Here's one for you.....

Why did the idiot have his sundial floodlit?
So he could tell the time at night!

BWHahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!

That was good Storm!!

You know, I too wondered about which way
to face the sundial, I have a tiny frog one,
and thought the same!
Thanks for asking, I hope someone knows!! [teacher]

Thank you Write2....very informative. I will run out there tomorrow and put my stick in the ground. LOL....I am on a quest to find "True North".

So...do we have any great carpenter's out there? What can I use to stick my sundial on it's pillar?
by weezie13 on March 21, 2004 06:10 AM
Storm,
I have just a little one
but I put mine on top of a old bottom of
pedestal bird bath that the bird bath part
got broken???

I am just afraid of the wind picking it up or someone leaning on it and possibly getting hurt somehow. Maybe some kind of epoxy that is used for swimming pools or boats would work. I will have to look into that.

I love your frog idea on your sundial. I take it you love frogs? I put one on the side of my birdbath last year. The birds just ignored him...well...actually they did more than that but you all have imaginations. Let's just say my froggy is spotty now [Wink]

I never knew you had to do the pointy-thingy with true north!

I just looked at my watch and made sure the shadow matched the time...... [Confused] [Confused]

You all are soooo funny!

I don't have a sundial, but there is a huge, elaborate one outside of our local library - it's fairly new - they put it there when they built the library about 5 years ago.
I'll try to take a picture of it soon and post it here. [flower]

Storm ~ there is a glue called E 6000 that comes in a grayish tube and I swear by it!!! [thumb] I have used it for all sorts of things, and it's held up really well on things that I've had outside year round. It's a one part clear glue that I find here in craft stores like A.C. Moore, Michael's, etc. Last time I checked Home Depot had never heard of it - oh, well... their loss... [dunno]

[Big Grin] [Big Grin] I have to admit, the idea of looking at your watch to match the time NEVER occured to me, but seems much simpler since most of already own one! Raise your hand if you own a compass AND know how to use one? not me... [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Thanks for all your help with this.

Well, I gotta be honest here.....I can't wear a watch (alergic) so I bought a sundial.

I just can't figure out how to get it in my purse.
