Well, I have an elephants ear philodendron which has one large trunk. I want
to keep my large plant growing and just start a new one from a leaf is it
possible? (i do not want to cut the trunk of the main plant)

A search at www.google.com with:
elephant ear philodendron + propagate
helped me to discover that this clumping variety should be propagated by shoots at the base.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
