I have recently planted eugenia (cherry bush) in my garden. The leaves on the plants have developed a "bubbly" appearance with some small holes in the leaves. There are gnat like bugs along the tops of the bushes. What are these and how do I get rid of them? I assume these bugs are causing the bubbly appearance of the leaves. Help!

Sounds like it could be aphids. Here is a pic. http://www.colostate.edu/Depts/CoopExt/4DMG/images/ashcurl.jpg
They can make the leaves all gnarly and deformed looking.
They go down pretty easliy with any standard insecticide.
