We just purchased a house with a very sandy yard and no grass. The area around the house is cleared, but around the clearing are pine trees. What would a good variety of grass to plant? I would prefer seeding or sprigging, no money for sod!

Fescue does well and is available readily, is inexpensive and found in seed form.

Z52 zoysia is pricey in sod form, but is very shade tolerant and can be made more cost effective by installing plugs, instead of solid sod.

Congratulations on your new home. Planning a landscape from scratch made seem intimidating but it is a lot of fun seeing it all come together over the years. Have fun with it!
